If you are looking for a fun science project, this demonstration is for you. This is a classic experiment that will give you an idea of what a volcano looks like when it erupts. We recommend adult supervision during this experiment; it can get messy if unsupervised. In order to complete this experiment, you will need the following ingredients:
Once you have assembled all of the ingredients, you are ready to begin. After your experiment is completed, do not forget about the quiz at the end. Have fun!
First, you need to make the dough. To do this, combine the flour, salt, and oil with two cups of water. When mixing the dough, the dough should be stiff and smooth. Add more water or flour as needed to get the right consistency.
Next, you need to place the bottle, with the cap on, in the middle of the pan. You can now form your volcano around the bottle using the dough you have made. If you take your time, you can create a great looking volcano. You are now ready for the most exciting step in your volcano creation.
Remove the bottle cap. Fill the bottle three quarters of the way up with water and 5 - 10 drops of red food coloring. Then, add 6 drops of dish washing soap and 2 tablespoons of baking soda. Now, it is time for the fun part. Slowly, pour the vinegar into the bottle and watch your volcano come to life.
Congratulations!! You have completed the 'How to Build a Volcano' experiment.
